Fezz Argentum X20 is a passive moving-coil cartridge step-up transformer designed for connection to a suitable moving-magnet phono stage. Its 1:20 winding ratio provides 26 dB of voltage gain, with a recommended cartridge-impedance range of 1.5–9 ohms.
Silver windings and shielded construction
Fezz uses 99.9 percent pure-silver winding wire on a high-permeability nanocrystalline core. A mu-metal magnetic shield and pure OFC copper-ribbon electrical shield surround the transformer assembly. The passive design provides voltage transformation without an active gain stage or mains-powered amplification circuit.
Cartridge and phono-stage matching
The manufacturer recommends a 47-kilohm load at the following phono input. Its specified bandwidth is 10 Hz–100 kHz with a 10 ohm source impedance, so the source condition should be considered when comparing figures. Cartridge output voltage and the downstream phono-stage gain also matter when selecting a transformer ratio. The X10 and X20 share the Evolution enclosure and seven finish choices, while their winding ratios and recommended cartridge ranges differ.
